Mayweather/Ortiz

Floyds victory will unfortunately be overshadowed by the controversial ending, although Mayweather was in control through 3 complete rounds and the majority of the 4th. Ortiz headbutted floyd, short break to deduct a point, followed by time in and a left right combo and down goes Ortiz. Of course ortiz says it was a sucker punch but the ref says he called time in and victor forgot the cardinal rule of boxing. Hands down, man down. (via Marc Jackson)

The Lebron James Debocle

Lebron James deciding to leave his hometown team to go and play for the Miami Heat alongside Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh has turned Lebron into a villian overnight. Why? Is it because he decided to go to Miami or for the hour long special that he and ESPN partnered up to broadcast? In my eye its a combination of both, a little more for the, "Decision." When its all said and done, this whole situation can be summed up in a vebatum quote from the one and only Allen Iverson, "They (the media) build you up and are your bestfriend, but as soon as you make one mistake, they will turn their back on you." They are actually waiting for you to mess up." This was evident as soon as the hour long special went off air. Although ESPN promoted this show the whole week leading up to it, they along with their analyst embarked on a week long tearing down of Lebron James.

Watching and reading each article that slammed Lebron James was almost unbearable for me. It was almost as if they didn't realize that they had created this guy that they were now breaking down. They were the ones that put him on covers of magazines dubbing him the next coming of Micheal Jordan. They were also the ones who put him on such a high pedestal before he had even played a single NBA game. Were they not the ones who made him out to be a basketball god before he even won a Championship? Out of his seven years they also pointed out his rare size, athleticism, and unselfishness. They pointed out everything except his flaws. But as soon as he decided to go to Miami, the media that praised LBJ, grew some balls and began to point out his shortcomings. Starting with the bitch of a owner Dan Gilbert, who wrote a 5 page letter accusing James of the ultimate sport sin, QUITTING. Where were those accusations during the playoffs? Oh yea, he couldn't talk due to a dick in his mouth. My point with this scrambled rant is that owners and media heads should hold every star accountable at every moment, don't act like a  scorned female when he decides to jump ship in order to be in a better position to win championships.

2010 USA Basketball

The 2010 USA Basketball team is missing the key components of its predecessor, The Redeem Team, due to their off-season obligations(injuries, weddings, contract limitations, etc..). Kevin Durant, who was on the cusp of making the Redeem Team, is now at the forefront of this years roster. Most of the NBA analyst believe that the success of this team rides squarely on KD's shoulders. This is backed up by his regular season performance which earned Durant the regular season scoring title(30 ppg). Although this is a valid point, I on the other hand believe that the Americans will go as far as the second or third scorer allows them to. I believe that Derrick Rose will emerge as that second threat each night. With his improved jump shot and his ability to finish at the rim, there is no doubt in my mind that Rose will be up for the task. Stephen Curry will be prove to be a valuable asset to the team also, not only for his innate ability to knock down the three, but for his play-making ability and his sneaky rebounding(i do recall him recording a triple double during the season). I would love to put Rudy Gay in this category, but his history of going through the motions and his lack of toughness negates my wishful thinking. But if there is a guy that can get players playing at a high caliber, it is Coach K. So if Mr. Gay can prove me wrong and not cower against the rough international players, team USA will gain another very deadly weapon and make it out of the World Championships without any blemishes on its record. Only time will tell.

3 Point Contestant: Channing Frye?

I've been a low key fan of Channing Frye since his days as a Arizona Wildcat. I thought his game was molded after Juwan Howard which is why I always believed he would have a good career as a back up NBA power forward. This year, Steve Nash's dribble penetration is still opening up the floor and has allowed Frye to connect on 114 threes while shooting 44%. While those are both impressive numbers but seeing Frye in the 3 point contest is still a decision I'm not to thrilled with.

Prediction: Eliminated in 1st Round while hitting 8 shots.

Sammie: It's Time EP Review

First off, I was never a Sammie fan to begin with because he sounded like he was whining and the fact that he was paired with my least favorite rapper of all-time, Soulja Boy didn't help his case either. But then one night he was in the studio as a guest on producer Troy Taylor's (Trey Songz producer) ustream and sparked my interest as he showcased some hidden vocal ability. From there he announced that he would be releasing a free batch of music to build anticipation for his upcoming 2010 album. Hence, the It's Time EP which is R&B singer/songwriter Sammie first attempt to reintroduce himself into the game. Yet its slim tracklist, It's Time is a great body of work which showcases Sammie's soulful vocals and inept songwriting ability.

It's Time starts off with, "Sexin In The Rain" which is a clever conceptual song which I believe everyone(of age) has fantasized about at one point. Between the vocals and smooth production, you are sure to get lost in the song, but just as you do you are forced to snap out of it and transition into the next song, "Magic Show."Here Sammie indulges into more adult content and does a impeccable job. He uses his falsetto just right midway through the song when he croons, "Girl if you let me show you whats in store....." Two songs in, he shows he can more than hold his own when it comes to making bedroom bangers that aren't overtly sexual. "Slow Motion" is also a nice mid-tempo that is sure to solidify my previous statement.

On track number 3, "Old Thang Back" Sammie strays away from the previous sexual songs and delivers a honest and reflective song, in which he pleads to his ex, "I'm standing here looking in the mirror, cuz i don't recognize just who I've become/and i was supposed to be your superhero, now I'm the cloud that's blocking your sun." Lyrics such as those as well as, "Time Machine" and "Wake Up" showcase mature side of the young artist who is wise beyond his years.

My personal favorite track comes on, "Put It On My Tab"as Sammie recruits Trey Songz to hit the club at what I'm deeming, "Say Ahh" Pt. 2. This song has up and coming producer, Young Yonny, returning as the beat maker and finds Sammie showcasing his ability to ride a beat just as well as he does on his ballads. The second uptempo, "It's a Party" seems to be a little out of sync as far as where it should have been placed on the tracklist, but it is decent none the less.

After listening to the EP, I come away thinking that if Sammie can stay consistent with content and keep improving his vocals, he shouldn't have a problem falling into the top 1o male r&b artists in 2010. I know it's going to be haters that wont give him a chance simply because they want to remember him as "LIL SAMMIE". But as listeners we all have to embrace the simple fact that we ALL get older, it's a little something we call life. Trust me, give Sammie a chance with this EP and i guarantee that you wont come away disappointed.

20 Games & Still an All- Star Starter

Allen Iverson is my all time favorite player under 6'0". His career has been nothing short of spectacular on the court, off the court, the answer has been ridiculed by the media for each mistake he has made. Starting off this year, Iverson was criticized for his unwillingness to take a diminished role with the Memphis Grizzlies which led to a premature retirement. Now his controversial career has come full circle and he is back wit Philly and has made the all star team after garnishing over a million votes and only playing in 20 games while averaging a career low 14. 4 pgg. Now the fans have been voting for the all star starters for as long as I can remember so I don't really understand all the backlash he is getting. The fans obviously want to see A.I. in the game. He has played in enough games to be able to be eligible so with that said, the fans have spoken so tell the media to shut the fuck up.
